Avatar Plot

Jake, a paraplegic, takes the place of his twin on the Na’vi-inhabited planet Pandora for a corporate mission. He must decide where his loyalties lie after the natives accept him as one of their own.

The story takes place in the mid-22nd century, when humans are colonising Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, to mine the valuable mineral unobtanium.

Avatar Narrative

Humans have depleted the Earth’s natural resources in 2154, resulting in a severe energy crisis. On Pandora, a densely forested habitable moon orbiting Polyphemus, a fictional gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, the Resources Development Administration (RDA) mines unobtanium, a valuable mineral. The Na’vi, a species of blue-skinned, sapient humanoids who live in harmony with nature and worship a mother goddess named Eywa, inhabit Pandora, whose atmosphere is poisonous to humans.

Scientists use Na’vi-human hybrids called “avatars,” which are controlled by genetically matched humans, to explore Pandora’s biosphere. Jake Sully, a paraplegic former Marine, takes over as an operator of one for his deceased identical twin brother. Dr. Grace Augustine, the Avatar Program’s director, believes Sully is an inadequate replacement but accepts his assignment as a bodyguard.

Colonel Miles Quaritch, head of RDA’s private security force, promises Jake that if he gathers information about the Na’vi and the clan’s gathering place, a giant tree called Hometree that stands above the area’s richest deposit of unobtanium, the company will restore his legs. Grace, Jake, and Norm are transferred to an outpost after learning of this. Jake and Neytiri fall in love over the next three months as Jake grows to sympathise with the natives.
