Death on the Nile Plot

When a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short, Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying hunt for a murderer.

The film is the third screen adaptation of Christie’s novel, following a 1978 film and a 2004 episode of the television series Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

Death on the Nile Narrative

During World War I, a young Hercule Poirot devises a successful strategy to advance his Belgian squadron, but his face is mutilated by a booby trap. Nurse Katherine, his lover, advises him to grow a mustache to hide his scars. Poirot watches Salome Otterbourne, a blues singer, perform in a London club in 1937, and Jacqueline “Jackie” de Bellefort introduces her fiancé Simon Doyle to heiress Linnet Ridgeway, a childhood friend.

Poirot meets his friend Bouc in Egypt six weeks later, and he introduces him to his mother Euphemia, a painter, and a surprising newlywed couple named Linnet and Simon. Linnet’s maid Louise Bourget, Salome and her niece/manager Rosalie, Linnet’s schoolfriend; Marie Van Schuyler, Linnet’s godmother; and Mrs.

Andrew Katchadourian, Linnet’s cousin, is in charge of her finances, and Linus Windlesham is her doctor. Linnet seeks Poirot’s help to protect them from the obsessive Jackie, who has followed them to Egypt; he tries to persuade Jackie, but she shows him a gun. The group boards the S.S. Karnak to avoid Jackie, though Linnet warns Poirot that she does not trust her visitors. Bouc confesses to his mother that he is dating Rosalie while on a trip to Abu Simbel, and Poirot expresses interest in Salome.
