Two amateur astronomers must embark on a massive media tour to warn humanity of an impending comet that will destroy the planet.

Don’t Look Up Narrative

People around the world are divided between those who believe the comet poses a serious threat, those who dismiss alarmism and believe that mining a destroyed comet will create jobs, and those who deny the comet even exists. When Dibiasky returns to Illinois, her parents kick her out, and she begins a relationship with Yule, a shoplifter she meets at her retail job.

Mindy’s wife returns to Michigan without him after confronting him about his infidelity. Mindy questions whether Isherwell’s technology will be able to disassemble the comet, which enrages the billionaire. She, who has grown tired of the administration, finally snaps and rants on live television, criticizing Orlean for downplaying the impending apocalypse and questioning humanity’s indifference.

Mindy reconciles with Dibiasky as the comet becomes visible from Earth, despite being cut off from the administration. Mindy, Dibiasky, and Oglethorpe organize a social media protest campaign encouraging people to “Just Look Up” and call on other countries to conduct comet interception operations, while Orlean launches an anti-campaign encouraging people to “Don’t Look Up.” Orlean excludes Russia, India, and China from the comet-mining deal, so they plan a joint effort to deflect the comet, only to have their spacecraft explode.
