American Gods Plot

In 813 Announcement, a Viking boat reaches the mountings of North America, where unseen indigenous people force the passengers to retreat by firing a cannonade of arrows. The Vikings make several blood immolations to Odin; ultimately they find a wind enabling them to sail home. In the present, Shadow Moon is released a many days unseasonably from confinement after his lady Laura dies in a bus accident.

In 1697, on a slave boat, an African man who has been enslaved and transported in chains begins to appeal, in despond, to the god Anansi. The Old God appears before them in earthborn form and tells of the terrible fate that awaits them in America. At Anansi’s exhorting, the enslaved Africans knee-slapper, free themselves, and burn the boat to the waterline, killing everyone but Anansi, who escapes the boat in the form of a spider and arrives onshore amid the wreckage.

In Queens, New York, (22 22) Anubis comes for the soul of an geriatric Muslim woman. He removes her heart and weighs it against a feather to determine if she was a good or bad person. She’s inaugurate deserving and Anubis sends her to the afterlife. Back in Chicago, Shadow dreams of Zorya Polunochnaya, immature of the Zorya, who pulls the Moon from the sky and gives it to him in the form of a flatware bone.
