American Horror Story Plot

An anthology of stories about a house with a deadly secret, a demented asylum, a witch coven, a strange show, a hotel, a haunted farmhouse, a cult, and the apocalypse.

Each season is conceived as a stand-alone miniseries, with its own cast of characters and settings, as well as a storyline with its own “beginning, middle, and end.” Each season’s plot elements are loosely based on true events.

American Horror Story Narrative

Teresa and Leo, a newlywed couple, explore the now-abandoned Briarcliff Manor, a former insane asylum in rural Massachusetts, in the present day. Back in 1964, Kit Walker is being held there on suspicion of being the infamous serial killer “Bloody Face.” Kit protests his innocence, and flashes of his jumbled memory point to something far more sinister at work.

Kit befriends Grace, a fellow inmate suspected of murdering her family, at Briarcliff. Lana Winters, a journalist, enters Briarcliff with the intention of exposing the institution’s mistreatment of inmates in order to advance her and her teacher lover Wendy Peyser’s careers. Sister Jude, a tyrant, confronts her and has her committed to the asylum due to her homosexuality. Sister Jude and Dr. Arthur Arden become embroiled in a bitter feud.

In the present day, Teresa and Leo are attacked and pursued by Bloody Face through Briarcliff. Dr. Thredson arrives at Briarcliff as Kit’s court-appointed therapist to determine whether or not he is fit to stand trial for the “Bloody Face” murders. “Bloody Face” murders people in both the present and the year 1964. Meanwhile, an exorcist is summoned to the asylum after a teenager’s behavior deviates from clinical assistance; he has been possessed by a demon.
