Gossip Girl Plot

Blair Waldorf is a well-liked student at her private school who is admired by all. Her perfect life is thrown into disarray when her ex-best friend enrolls in the same school.

Serena Van der Woodsen returns to the Upper East Side of New York from boarding school to visit her suicidal brother, Eric, after a mysterious disappearance. Serena had sex with her boyfriend, Nate Archibald, the night of her disappearance, according to Blair Waldorf.

Gossip Girl Narrative

The privileged prep school teens on Manhattan’s Upper East Side first learn that Serena van der Woodsen is back in town from the blog of the all-knowing, albeit ultra-secretive Gossip Girl, as they do with all the important news in their lives. No one knows Gossip Girl’s true identity, but everyone in this tight-knit group relies on her website and text messages for the most up-to-date information.

Blair Waldorf, Serena’s closest friend, is surprised to learn that Serena has abruptly ended her self-imposed boarding school exile and returned to Manhattan. Serena’s reasons for returning are unknown, though they may have something to do with her younger brother Eric, who was once the most notorious party girl on the Upper East Side. Whatever the cause, Serena’s transformation is palpable, particularly to Blair, whose friendship with Serena has always been competitive and challenging.

Serena’s best friend Blair gives her an icy welcome after the scandalous Kiss on the Lips party, revealing that she knows Serena slept with her boyfriend, Nate, before mysteriously disappearing to boarding school. Serena decides to accompany Dan to Chuck’s archenemy Chuck’s fundraiser brunch at The Palace, and Jenny seeks advice from Blair, who realizes she may have something to gain by allowing Jenny into her inner circle.
