Impulse Plot

Henrietta, a sixteen-year-old girl, discovers she has the ability to teleport after a traumatic event. Based on Steven Gould’s novel.

Impulse follows Henrietta “Henry” Coles, a 16-year-old girl who discovers she has the ability to teleport but has no control over where she goes.

Impulse Narrative

Nikolai is outside Henry’s house when she teleports and witnesses Bill’s attack and Henry ripping off his arm. Bill dies as a result of the damage, and Nikolai begins to dispose of his body. Henry confronts him, but Nikolai transports Henry and her injured mother in Bill’s car and abandons them outside of town with a false story. Henry, terrified that her mother will die, manages to teleport to a nearby diner for assistance.

In the hospital, Henry converses with Hulce, who is attempting to make sense of her story. Jenna and Henry stay with Townes because Henry’s house is still a crime scene, and Henry informs them that Bill is no longer alive. Henry attempts to cope with the trauma by attending a party and getting drunk. She has a hallucination that everyone knows she murdered Bill. After the police arrive to break up the party, Henry and Jenna flee into the woods. At his home, Townes receives a package. Henry discovers a photo of her family at a camp in the woods in a dream.

Henry is back in the woods, where she last saw her father. She arrives in a meadow with a blue truck that begins to crumble; she tries to flee, but is drawn towards it until she teleports back to her room, drenched in mud. Thomas proposes that he and Cleo marry in order to cover the insurance costs of the medical care she required after Bill shot her. Henry sees Nikolai again, and this time he shows her a photo of the location she teleported to after Bill’s attack, Sri Lanka.
