Kingdom Plot

The king rises from the dead, and a mysterious plague spreads; the prince must face a new breed of foes in order to uncover the evil plot and save his people.

The first season of Kingdom is set during Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, three years after the Imjin War, and follows Crown Prince Lee Chang and his subordinates as they come across an unnatural plague that resurrects the dead.

Kingdom Narrative

It’s been ten days since the King of Joseon fell ill with smallpox and died. Only the Chief State Councillor Lord Cho Hak-ju, leader of the Haewon Cho clan, and his daughter, the Queen Consort Cho, who is pregnant with the King’s child, are allowed to see him in his palace in the capital Hanyang.

The Haewon Cho seize power and imprison and torture 89 scholars accused of plotting to depose the King and replace him with his son, Crown Prince Lee Chang, who is the King’s child by a concubine and thus a less legitimate heir than the Queen Consort’s unborn child. Lee Chang, the conspiracy’s ringleader, becomes suspicious of his father’s condition and enters the palace to investigate, but is apprehended by Cho Beom-il, Lord Cho Hak-son ju’s and the Queen Consort’s brother, who is a commander of the Royal Army.

Beom-il and a platoon of soldiers are dispatched to find and arrest Lee Chang, who has fled the palace with only his trusted bodyguard Mu-yeong. Meanwhile, ill patients are overflowing Jiyulheon, Lee Seung-clinic hui’s in Dongnae, and there isn’t enough food to feed them all. The royal physician reappears, carrying the body of his assistant Dan-i, who was killed in the king’s palace by an unknown monster.
