Modern Family Plot

Three modern-day families from California deal with their children, eccentric spouses, and jobs in their own unique ways, frequently ending up in hilarious situations.

Modern Family revolves around three different types of families in the Los Angeles area, all of which are linked by Jay Pritchett and his children, Claire and Mitchell.

Modern Family Narrative

Despite the age difference between Jay and his second wife, Gloria, Jay’s family tries to function. Claire and Phil’s family is attempting to punish their son while also keeping an eye on their eldest daughter and her new boyfriend. Mitchell tries to conceal the fact that he and his partner Cameron have just adopted a baby daughter in Vietnam from his family until Cameron invites Mitchell’s family without consulting him.

Jay tries to demonstrate to his stepson that he can be a good father; Phil tries to teach his son a lesson by stealing his bike, but gets into trouble when he realizes he has the wrong bike; and Cameron and Mitchell bring Lily to a play group and try to act straight. Jay tries to spend some alone time with his model airplane, but Phil ruins it; Alex and Gloria visit a mall, where Gloria tries to persuade Alex to wear a dress to a wedding; and Mitchell visits Costco for the first time in his life.

Mitchell and Claire’s mother pays a visit to the family months after embarrassing Jay and Gloria in front of their family at their wedding. Phil and Claire try to decide whether Haley’s boyfriend, Dylan, is suitable for taking her to a concert. Mitchell goes to his father’s house to inform him that his ex-wife has been invited to a party, but he does not inform Gloria.
