Only the first four people enter detention alive: a brain, an athlete, a princess, a criminal, and a “basket case.”

Five students at Bayview High are given detention: Simon, Addy, Cooper, Bronwyn, and Nate.

One of Us Is Lying Narrative

Simon is a high school student who founded About That, an online gossip group where he posts personal and revealing information about his peers. Five students—Simon, Addy, Cooper, Bronwyn, and Nate—are given detention at the start of the school year. Simon has a sudden and fatal allergic reaction after drinking a cup of water. Bronwyn has taken Simon’s laptop, which Nate notices.

The four students are introduced to Officer Miller the next morning, who has launched an investigation into Simon’s death, which was caused by a peanut allergy triggered by traces of peanut oil in the cup he was drinking from. Bronwyn is urged to return the laptop by Nate. Cooper confides in his brother Lucas about his difficulties in coming out.

Nate continues to sell drugs despite being on probation. Addy starts taking medication the next day to deal with the stress she’s experiencing as a result of Simon’s death. Simon’s best friend Janae sings “Fuck You” by Lily Allen at a memorial service for him later that night. An anonymous user confesses to the murder of Simon on the website About That. Bronwyn later discovers Simon’s laptop is missing.
