Ozark Plot

A financial advisor drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks to launder money for a drug lord.

After a money laundering scheme for a Mexican drug cartel fails, financial advisor Martin “Marty” Byrde proposes making amends by offering to set up a larger laundering operation in central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks region.

Ozark Narrative

Buddy, the terminally ill homeowner, moves to the basement while the Byrdes move into a lakefront house. Roy’s ex-boyfriend, FBI Agent Trevor Evans, follows Roy’s instructions to approach the Byrdes, who are unfazed and continue to maintain their innocence. The Byrdes are informed that, in addition to skimming money, Bruce was an FBI informant. Trevor notices Roy becoming obsessed, foreshadowing further problems for the Byrdes.

Charlotte and Jonah are informed of the true reason for their relocation to the Ozarks, and Jonah conducts online research to learn more about the cartel. Wendy gets a job as an advance person and “stager” for the real estate broker with whom she worked when she bought Buddy’s house. Charlotte’s job interview is ruined when she sees Wyatt outside the store and punches him in retaliation for his ruse at the hotel.

Marty begins activities at the Blue Cat, despite Rachel, the primary owner’s suspicions. Ruth persuades Marty to hire her as a dishwasher at the Blue Cat, and she informs her cousins and uncles that her plan is to learn Marty’s money laundering operation.
