Perry Mason Plot

Based on Erle Stanley Gardner’s novels and short stories, this legal drama is set in 1932 Los Angeles.

The show tells the origin story of famous defense lawyer Perry Mason. Los Angeles is thriving in 1932, while the rest of the United States is recovering from the effects of the Great Depression.

Perry Mason Narrative

Barnes is seeking the death penalty as well as a conspiracy conviction for Charlie’s mother, Emily. Unrest erupts at Emily’s arraignment when a distraught Emily nearly enters a guilty plea and Barnes requests a $25,000 bail, which the judge grants. Baggerly abruptly stops funding Jonathan and his team, believing Emily’s guilt. Meanwhile, Mason’s partner, Pete Strickland, unearths information linking Gannon to a job at a nearby casino, but Gannon’s former boss informs Mason that he left voluntarily for religious reasons.

Mason, increasingly convinced that Gannon was set up, seeks clarification on Drake’s police report; Drake refuses to speak with him, having been threatened by Ennis. Drake’s skepticism, on the other hand, leads him to give Mason the dentures he discovered in the stairwell. Mason and Strickland sneak into the morgue and confirm Gannon’s dentures. Della Street, Jonathan’s secretary, discovers Ennis and Holcomb attempting to coerce Emily into confessing.

After reading about Alice’s claim in the newspapers, Baggerly and the other church bankrollers demand a retraction. Alice begins to issue a public retraction, but when a member of her congregation shows up for her press conference, she instead proclaims Emily’s innocence and reaffirms her statement, splintering the church.
