Four Indigenous teenagers from rural Oklahoma steal, rob, and save their money in order to travel to the exotic, mysterious, and faraway land of California.

The show follows the lives of four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma as they go about their days committing and fighting crime.

Reservation Dogs Narrative

Elora Danan, Bear, Willie Jack, and Cheese (the Rez Dogs) steal and sell a delivery truck. They are raising funds to leave their small reservation community and travel to the exotic, mythical land of California. They are in mourning for their friend Daniel, who died a year ago, and have erected a small memorial for him. Bear faints after a car full of teenagers (the NDN Mafia) drives by and shoots paintballs at the Rez Dogs, and he meets an Indigenous spirit who tries to give him life advice.

The NDN Mafia jumps and beats up Bear, necessitating a trip to the local clinic. Elora and Willie Jack set up shop outside, selling meat pies alongside a man selling traditional medicines. The four meet various members of their community throughout the episode. Cheese is nice to an elderly woman who believes he is her grandson. The spirit from Episode 1 is having problems. Bear’s mother, who works at the clinic, is flirted with by the local doctor.

Concerned about the NDN Mafia attacks, the Rez Dogs seek out Elora’s uncle, Brownie, to see if he will teach them to fight. Brownie, the powerful warrior, is told to have knocked out several people in a bar fight. They spend the day attempting to assist Brownie in selling his ancient weed while also learning “Indigenous-style” fighting techniques.
