Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Plot
On the USS Enterprise, Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One explore new worlds throughout the galaxy.
During the decade preceding Star Trek: The Original Series, the series follows Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the starship USS Enterprise as they explore new worlds throughout the galaxy.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Narrative
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds takes place before James T. Kirk, when Captain Christopher Pike commanded the USS Business. Pike and the Enterprise will travel the galaxy in search of new worlds, aided by their number one, Vulcan Science Officer Spock. All three characters first appeared in Star Trek: Discovery’s second season.
Captain Pike is the Enterprise’s immediate predecessor to Captain James T. Kirk. So far, four actors have played the character. The role was originally played by Jeffrey Hunter in the pilot episode, but after the pilot was rejected, he dropped out of the series, and the show was reimagined with Kirk as the lead. Sean Kenney plays an older Pike in the original series, with the show using footage from the unaired pilot as stock footage of the character.
Mount is most well-known for his portrayal of Cullen Bohannon on AMC’s Hell on Wheels. He has also appeared in Dollhouse, Law & Order, Lost, and Smallville, as well as the short-lived Marvel series In humans. When asked about playing Captain Pike, Mount stated, “I never imagined he’d end up captaining the Enterprise.” I am not exaggerating when I say that I am in disbelief and awe every day that I am on set.”
