Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Plot

Captain Jack Sparrow and Henry Turner set out to find the Trident of Poseidon in order to break the curse of the Flying Dutchman. They also attempt to thwart Captain Salazar’s plans to rule the seas.

Captain Jack Sparrow is being pursued by an old adversary, Captain Salazar, and a crew of lethal ghosts who have escaped from the Devil’s Triangle. They’re hell-bent on killing every pirate at sea, especially Jack.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Narrative

Thirteen years after the battle of Calypso’s maelstrom,[N 1] a twelve-year-old Henry Turner boards the Flying Dutchman and informs his father, Will, that the Trident of Poseidon can break the curse that binds Will to the Dutchman and only allows him to step on land once a decade. Will believes Henry’s plan to recruit Captain Jack Sparrow to help him find it is impossible and orders Henry to leave.

Nine years later, Henry is a Royal Navy sailor. The ship enters the supernatural Devil’s Triangle and comes across the wreck of the Silent Mary, whose ghostly crew, led by Spanish pirate-hunter Captain Armando Salazar, attacks, sparing Henry’s life so that he can deliver a message to Jack, who killed Salazar and his crew decades ago by inadvertently cursing them by leading them to the Devil’s Triangle.

In Saint Martin, a young astronomer named Carina Smyth is sentenced to death for witchcraft but escapes and meets Jack as he and his crew bungle a bank robbery while under the influence of a bad luck spell.

[N 2] Later, Jack trades his compass for a drink, destroying the Devil’s Triangle and releasing Salazar and his crew once more. Carina discovers Henry is looking for the location of the Trident and offers to assist him by using her unknown father’s diary.
