Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Plot

Captain Jack Sparrow embarks on a voyage in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth. His mission pits him against a mysterious woman from his past, an old adversary named Barbossa, and the feared pirate Blackbeard.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Narrative

In the mid-eighteenth century, a man is rescued from the sea off the coast of Spain and brought to King Ferdinand of Spain, where he claims to be a crewmate of Juan Ponce de León, who vanished 200 years ago while searching for the Fountain of Youth. Captain Jack Sparrow is brought before King George II seventeen years after the battle of Calypso’s maelstrom, after a failed attempt to save his first mate, Joshamee Gibbs, from execution in London.

Jack escapes, where he meets his father, Captain Teague, who informs him that the Fountain requires a ritual to be used. Jack discovers that an imposter is recruiting pirates for another expedition. Angelica, Jack’s former lover and the legendary Blackbeard’s daughter, is the imposter. Jack is forced to serve on Blackbeard’s ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Due to a predestined, fatal encounter with Barbossa, Blackbeard survived his historic death through voodoo magic.

Barbossa hires Gibbs, who burns the charts and admits to memorising every location. Angelica informs Jack that two silver chalices must be recovered from Ponce de León’s flagship, the Santiago. To activate the Fountain’s healing properties, a mermaid’s tear must be placed in one chalice, and both chalices must be drunk at the same time. The drinker who lacks the tear will die, and their lifeforce will be transferred to the other.
