Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Plot

A blacksmith joins forces with Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate, to rescue the love of his life from Jack’s associates, who kidnapped her with the medallion in mind.

The plot revolves around pirate Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) rescuing the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, led by Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who turn into undead skeletons in moonlight.

Governor Weatherby Swann, his daughter Elizabeth, and crew encounter a shipwreck and recover a boy, Will Turner, while sailing to Port Royal, Jamaica aboard HMS Dauntless in 1720. Elizabeth steals a golden pirate medallion from around his neck. Captain James Norrington is promoted to commodore eight years later and proposes to Elizabeth. Her corset causes her to pass out and fall into the sea, causing the medallion to pulse.

Elizabeth is rescued by Captain Jack Sparrow, who has just arrived in Port Royal to commandeer a ship. When Norrington recognises Jack as a pirate, a chase ensues. Will, who is now a blacksmith, runs into Jack. They fight, and Jack is imprisoned as a result. The Black Pearl attacks Port Royal that night in search of the medallion. The Pearl’s crew kidnaps Elizabeth and takes her to meet Captain Barbossa. Elizabeth disguises herself as the governor’s daughter by claiming the surname Turner.

Barbossa explains that the medallion is one of 882 gold pieces taken from Hernán Cortés’ treasure on Isla de Muerta as a payment to stop the massacre against the Aztecs, but Cortes refused it because he was too greedy, and the Aztec gods cursed the treasure. This cursed Barbossa and his crew, turning them into immortals with skeletal appearances in the moonlight. Barbossa and his team have returned all but one of the pieces, with Elizabeth’s medallion remaining.
