Rumble Plot

Winnie hopes to follow in her father’s footsteps as a manager by transforming an inexperienced monster into a contender in a world where monsters are tamed and monster wrestling is a popular sport.

In a world where giant monsters and humans collide, the monsters are superstar athletes who compete in Monster Wrestling, a popular professional wrestling global sport.

Rumble Narrative

Monster wrestling is a global sport populated by athletes who are literally superstars. This insanely popular new sport was created by a collaboration between humans and creatures. Monster Rayburn and his Coach Jimbo are possibly the most well-known names in monster wrestling. When the duo perishes at sea and the only remaining monster, Tentacular, departs for “Slitherpoole,” the town of Stoker is in desperate need of money.

No monsters means no money for Stoker—in fact, the only way to get out of the literal money pit they’ve found themselves in may be to accept a deal from rising conglomerate ‘Slitherpoole.’ Winnie, Coach Jimbo’s daughter, is a street-smart and passionate young girl who may be their only hope. She must work with an underdog wrestler named Steve to coach him to victory over Tentacular, the reigning champion.

Rumble contains amusing moments that children will most likely enjoy. The audience being drenched in a massive bulldog monster’s drool made me laugh, and a gag that reminded me of a recurring Austin Powers joke is lovingly executed (you will know it when you see it). The maturity and zing of more focused content simply does not reflect the overall quality here. Rumble, at the end of the day, is perfectly adequate for a child but leaves much to be desired as an adult.
