Scream Plot

Twenty-five years after a string of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers in an attempt to resurrect secrets from the town’s lethal past.

The film also makes a point about fandom culture and the difference between “elevated horror” and classic slasher films.

Scream Narrative

Twenty-five years after Billy Loomis and Stu Macher’s killing spree in Woodsboro, Tara Carpenter, a high school student, is home alone when she is attacked by Ghostface and hospitalized. Wes Hicks, one of Tara’s friends, informs Tara’s estranged older sister Sam Carpenter about the attack in Modesto. Sam and her boyfriend Richie return to Woodsboro to visit Tara in the hospital, where Sam is reunited with Tara’s friend group.

Ghostface murders Liv’s ex-boyfriend Vince Schneider, Stu Macher’s nephew, outside a bar that night. Sam is attacked by Ghostface at the hospital and tells Tara that she has been having hallucinations of Billy Loomis, whom Sam discovered as a teenager was her biological father. Sam’s true parentage caused their parents to divorce, which is why Sam is estranged from Tara.

Sam and Richie pay a visit to Dewey Riley, who has recently divorced Gale Weathers. They request his assistance in apprehending the murderer, and he contacts Gale and Sidney Prescott, informing them of Ghostface’s return. Dewey joins them at Mindy and Chad’s house, where he is reunited with the twins’ mother, Martha Meeks, Randy Meeks’ sister. Sam is accused of being the killer because the three attacks targeted people related to the original killers.
