The Adam Project Narrative

The Adam Project has a familiar feel to it, harkening back to 1980s and 1990s science fiction films, which works in its favor. It gets right to work right away, with Reynolds’ Adam Reed escaping from another plane by jumping through a time portal and traveling back in time to save the future with his younger self. In comparison to other films that can get tangled up in trying to explain every timeline, the time travel stuff is easy to follow, and the screenplay exudes a genuine sense of fun and adventure.

It’s also a very light and breezy film, with very few attempts at emotion, making it a great movie for the whole family to sit down and enjoy together. The film’s emotional aspect should have been explored further in order to take it to new heights; the film had the potential to hit the audience with an emotional whallop with its narrative, but the writing team did not do enough with it.

Shawn Levy’s action sequences, some great songs on the soundtrack, and interactions between the older and younger Adam all demonstrate that The Adam Project is all about having a good time. Ryan Reynolds gives the same fast-talking, smart-mouthed performance we’ve come to expect from him these days, which serves both Reynolds and the film well.
