The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Plot

After a conflict arises, Bilbo fights a number of enemies to save the lives of his Dwarf friends and to protect the Lonely Mountain.

It is the third and final installment of Peter Jackson’s three-part film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Narrative

From the Lonely Mountain, Bilbo and the Dwarves watch as the dragon Smaug burns down Laketown. Bard escapes from prison and kills Smaug with the black arrow. Smaug’s falling body crushes the Master of Laketown and his cronies, who were fleeing with the town’s gold on a boat.

Laketown’s new leader, Bard, leads its people to seek refuge in the ruins of Dale. Thorin, now in possession of the mountain’s vast treasure, searches obsessively for the Arkenstone, which Bilbo had previously discovered but kept hidden. When he learns that Laketown survivors have fled to Dale, he orders the Lonely Mountain’s entrance to be sealed off.

Meanwhile, Galadriel, Elrond, and Saruman arrive at Dol Guldur and liberate Gandalf, transporting him to safety with Radagast. They fight and defeat the Nazgûl before confronting a shapeless Sauron himself. Galadriel defeats him in a will-to-power duel and exiles him and his forces to the East. Azog, with his vast Orc army marching on Erebor, sends his son Bolg to Mount Gundabad to summon their second army.
