The Incredible Hulk Plot

Dr. Bruce Banner exposes himself to high levels of gamma radiation, which causes him to transform into the Hulk, a huge green creature, whenever he experiences negative emotions such as anger.

In the film, Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk as an unwitting pawn in a military plot to resurrect the “Super-Soldier” program using gamma radiation. Banner flees the military while attempting to cure himself of the Hulk.

The Incredible Hulk Narrative

General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross meets with Dr. Bruce Banner, a colleague and Betty’s boyfriend, at Culver University in Virginia, to discuss an experiment that Ross claims will make humans immune to gamma radiation. The experiment, which was part of a World War II-era “super-soldier” program Ross hopes to recreate, fails.

When exposed to gamma radiation, Banner’s heart rate rises above 200 beats per minute, causing him to transform into the Hulk for brief periods of time. The Hulk destroys the lab and its surroundings, killing several people inside and injuring the General and Betty, as well as others outside. Banner flees the United States military and Ross, who wants to weaponize the Hulk.

Banner works at a bottling factory in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, five years later, while searching for a cure for his condition. On the internet, he works anonymously with a colleague known only as “Mr. Blue.” He is learning Yoga techniques to help him maintain control, but he has not changed in five months. After Banner cuts his finger, a drop of his blood falls into a bottle and is ingested by an elderly consumer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, causing him to develop gamma sickness.
